生地のザラ感・ムラ感など荒々しい表情を持ったデニムです。
天然藍の染料は、合成インディゴ染料に比べて精製・染めが難しく生産量も非常に少ないためロープ染色のような大きな装置には向かない染料です。
従来、天然藍は主に枷染め(かせぞめ)と呼ばれる手絞りによる染め方が主流ですが、糸の芯まで深く染まるためヒゲやアタリは出づらく、全体的に平面的に青みがかって色が薄くなっていく特徴があります。
